FAQs

Q: What is spray tanning?

A: UV Free spray tanning is the application of the tanning solution to the skin.  When applied, DHA reacts with the skin creating a golden brown color.  The color will darken in about 2-3 hours and reaches the full intensity in 24 hours.  The color will then gradually fade through your skins natural exfoliation process.

Q: What is DHA?

A:  DHA is the active ingredient most often used in sunless tanners, tinted moisturizers and spray solution.  DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is a carbohydrate compound approved by the FDA for use as an externally applied sunless tanning solution.  DHA is often derived from a vegetable source such as beets or sugar cane.

Q: Does my spray tan work like sun screen?:

A:  No, spray tans are cosmetic.  They do not create a "base tan" or provide UV protection.  It is strongly recommended that sunscreen is applied while exposed to the sun or other UV rays.

Q: How long will my spray tan last?

A: Spray tans last approx. 5-10 days, longer for some.  Preparing your skin prior to your spray by exfoliating is a key factor in the longevity of your tan.  After care is the second factor in your tans life.  Exercise, skin conditions, hormones and bath/body products can all create uneven post-tan fading.  Please feel free to ask for info on the best products to use to keep your tan looking its best!

Q: What products should I avoid using with my tan?

A:  Any products that contain mineral oils or sulfates should be avoided if at all possible.  Lines such as dove, Oil of Olay and Jergen's are examples of products to avoid.

Q: Can I spray while pregnant?

A: DHA only penetrates the outermost layer of the skin and does not enter the blood stream.  However, it is recommended all clients consult their  physician before a spray service.

Q: What should I wear during and after my appointment?

A:  Women: If you choose to wear a bathing suit or cotton undergarments, keep in mind there will be tan lines as the solution will not penetrate through clothing.  Men: It is required that cotton briefs, shorts or a bathing suit is worn for the session.

After your session, dark, loose clothing is recommended to reduce rubbing or staining.  Sleeping in long pants/sleeves is also recommended.

Q: How do I set up an appointment:

A:  You can call, text, email or book online at https://alissacullen.glossgenius.com 24/7!
